Night at the Museum!

So I first heard about this event in early February and was smitten with the idea of attending. Museum Night Fever was an event hosted by BOZAR (an arts group) that involved 19 museums. It was a night were you bought a ticket and that ticket allowed you entrance to all 19 museums and included a shuttle service between the museums and after party at BOZAR. At each of the museums there were different activities and workshops going on.

I ended up going with a group that started with about 12 people and ended with 3 of us: Katie, Stacy, and I. We started off at BOZAR, then made out way to the Brussels Information Place where they had all these crazy instillations about Brussels. One room had fake grass on the ground and a giant map of Brussels coming out of the wall. When you touched a certain part of the wall, the map would light up and a tram would go from the last picked location and move to the current choice while telling you about what historic things have happened in that location.  Or they also had an exhibit where they took the city of Brussels and made it into a giant game of building blocks and you could create your own Brussels. These exhibit sounds weird and rightly so, but they were also pretty fun to play around with.

From BIP, we went outside of BOZAR to try and find the rest of the group we had earlier lost, but instead found Red Bull. Red Bull was helping to sponsor the event, so they were giving out free Red Bull. It reminded me of this past summer at Red Bull Flutag.
Red Bull gives you wings!
Next, we ventured forth to BelVUE Museum, where we caught part of a concert happening, then we went to the basement which we later found out was another museum the Coudenberg-Former Palace of Brussels. It was the historic Brussels area full of old caves and old architecture. They had a renaissance-type dance in the basement, so we joined in and had a grand old time. As the basement continued to fill with people, we decided to leave and find another museum.

We ended our Night at the Museum event at the Dinosaur Museum. We got to see some cool rocks (geology) and learn about how Belgian archeologists are doing in regards to their research. According to my findings, I’d say they were doing pretty well! From this museum, we made the attempt to get into the BOZAR after party, but alas by 12:45 it was full, despite the fact that the event wasn’t supposed to start until 1am. We took this as a sign that it was time to go home before the night bus closed down for the night. Another fun and educational night in Belgium!
Going Columbus on the world!
